Today, the U.S. Department of Energy released a report that finds that Colorado has the industrial and human capital base, the natural resource potential, and ongoing policy framework to capitalize on federal efforts to repower America with a clean energy economy.  The report comes as the Senate takes up debate on the Clean Energy Jobs & American Power Act, a comprehensive clean energy bill that encourages further development of renewable energy and industry.

“Today’s great challenge is not the race into outer space, it’s to build a clean energy future for the world. The new report by the Department of Energy shows that Colorado has the natural and intellectual capital to be a leading clean energy producer and to push America to the top.

“Since taking office, President Obama has been calling for repowering America, including passing comprehensive clean energy legislation that will energize America’s industrial and scientific bases and put the U.S. further ahead in the international race for clean energy jobs.  Today’s announcement shows that the administration is looking to states like Colorado as shining examples of the power of a clean energy future.

“Even as DOE was announcing a report on Colorado’s potential to benefit from a national new energy economy, the Senate was taking steps to make that vision a reality. The bill introduced in the Senate this morning is an important next step in putting this country on sound a foundation of clean energy that will increase our national security and improve our economy while protecting our environment.”
