Denver, CO- Yesterday Gov. John Hickenlooper announced that he won’t tolerate action taken by cities and towns to ban oil and gas drilling within their borders, and promised to take them to court.

“From air pollution to industrial landscapes to toxic spills like the one in Windsor, communities in Colorado have plenty of reasons to say no to dirty drilling.  We believe they should retain the right to do so.  By threatening this legal action, Governor Hickenlooper is imposing the will of the oil and gas industry on every city and town in Colorado,” said Anneli Berube, Field Organizer with Environment Colorado.

According to CBS Denver, Fort Collins Mayor Karen Weitkunat said while it is the state’s right to sue, Fort Collins is a home-rule city and they want to make their own land-use decisions.
