Kansas nixes Tri-State power plant (new window)The denial of an air-quality permit to Tri-State
and Sunflower Electric by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment last
week was the first time that carbon-dioxide emissions have been cited as a
reason for denial in the United States. Health department secretary Rod Bremby
denied the permit on the basis of carbon dioxide because it is a greenhouse gas
associated with climate change . . .
"This is going to have lasting rewards for
the region’s air, water, economy and climate,” said Matt Baker of Environment
Colorado."
