What's New
Gov. Bill Ritter signed two pieces of clean energy legislation, House Bill
1281 and Senate Bill 100, to help create a New Energy Economy for
Colorado. Environment Colorado joined the governor at the signing
ceremony outside the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s Wind Test
Center in Boulder.
How You Can Help
Please call Senators Salazar and Allard and ask them to vote in favor
of renewable energy and against any amendments that might include
energy sources such as nuclear and liquid coal in the definition of
renewable energy.
Summary
The time has come for Colorado
to put its technological know-how and natural advantages to work to
create a new energy future. By investing in renewable energy such as
solar, wind, and biofuels and energy efficiency measures we can reduce
our dependence on foreign oil, reinvigorate our economy, create good
new jobs, protect consumers, and protect our environment.
Environment Colorado is calling on Colorado's leaders, candidates for the state legislature and governorship, to endorse The Plan for Colorado's New Energy Future.
The Plan for Colorado's New Energy Future
• Reduce our dependence on foreign oil.
The fuels of the future are already coming to market in Colorado and
many of them are even grown here. Colorado should require 10 percent of
our transportation fuel to be from biofuels by 2015.
• Harness clean, renewable homegrown energy.
With Colorado's vast potential to harvest wind, solar and biomass power
we should lead the country in the production of clean energy. We should
get 20 percent of Colorado's electricity from renewables by 2015.
• Save energy with increased efficiency.
The fastest way for Colorado to reduce pollution and save money is to
reduce the amount of energy we use. We can require utilities to
facilitate reducing electricity and natural gas use 10 percent by 2015.
• Invest in a bold, new energy future.
By investing more public and private dollars in new energy-saving and
renewable technologies, we'll power our future and improve our economy.
