Save our right to protect the environment at the ballot

The Colorado House of Representatives is set to adopt a proposal that would undermine the rights of citizens at the ballot.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 3 (SCR 3) makes it more difficult for grassroots organizations to run initiatives by making the petition drive more difficult and expensive. These changes won’t stop big moneyed special interests, but it will make it more difficult for grassroots groups who rely on volunteers.

Take action today to ensure that there is a fair playing field for our voice to be heard at the ballot.

Letter	Dear Representative: Please vote no on Senate Concurrent Resolution 3 (SCR 3). While I appreciate the legislature’s honest effort to safeguard Colorado’s constitution, the provisions to require geographic distribution and shortening the time frame for gathering signatures would unfairly hurt citizens and grassroots organizations that depend on volunteers to pass initiatives. What’s more, it would do absolutely nothing to stop special interest groups -- often groups with deep pockets from out of state -- from amending the constitution by paying their way onto the ballot. Again, please vote NO on SCR 3.
