Pledge your vote for the Gunnison County Energy Smart Loan Program, Ballot 1A
The Gunnison County Energy Smart Loan Program is a voluntary loan program for residential energy efficiency and renewable energy home improvements. The program uses a special type of loan, known as a property assessed loan, to make financing more affordable. The “Colorado Clean Energy Finance Program Act,” makes these loans possible by vesting local governments with the authority to 1) create a Local Improvement District for financing energy efficiency and renewable energy measures and 2) issue taxable and tax-exempt bonds for such financing.
Individual property owners may voluntarily join the program in order to borrow funds to finance the purchase and installation of energy-efficient and renewable energy measures on commercial & residential properties. The borrower repays the loan through an additional special assessment on their property tax bill.
The Energy Smart Loan Program is not a tax increase. Only residents who choose to borrow money from the program will receive an increased tax assessment.
