Background:

Matt Garrington’s priority campaigns for Environment Colorado are forest preservation; rural economic development and open space protection; wilderness; and protecting Colorado’s land, water and air thru more responsible mining and energy development. Garrington started working for the state PIRGs’ citizen outreach fundraising program in 1999, and later became a campus organizer for CoPIRG Student Chapters. Since then, he has also worked on ballot initiatives including Amendment 27, the Colorado campaign finance reform initiative and Amendment 37, the clean energy standard. Garrington also led a statewide effort in 2006 on a clean energy platform with labor and agricultural organizations and ran the field campaign to double Colorado’s use of clean energy to 20 percent by 2020 the following year. In 2003 and 2004, before returning to Environment Colorado, Garrington served as field organizer and legislative aide for Colorado state Sen. Brandon Shaffer. Garrington is also past president of the Colorado music nonprofit, Creative Music Works, where he won the “2008 Performing Arts Mastermind Award” from Westword magazine. Garrington grew up in Loveland, Colo. and received his B.A. in political science with a minor in economics and music performance at the University of Colorado at Denver.
